Imagine a dental office that offers general dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, oral surgery and even orthodontics!
Bright Side Dental, with three convenient Detroit, Michigan offices, provides complete orthodontic treatment to resolve poorly aligned teeth and jaws. You can now get orthodontic treatment at the same office where you get your teeth cleaned and all your other dental work done!
Historically, people have been scientifically treated for orthodontic imperfections as early as the late 1800s, and teeth straightening has been practiced since early times, but braces became commonplace in the mid-20th century.
As specialists in the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dental and facial irregularities, orthodontists are those uniquely qualified to correct improperly aligned teeth and jaws.
Braces are most often prescribed to improve growth of the teeth in a positive manner, handle a problem bite, reduce risk of injury to protruding front teeth and correct harmful habits all which can improve chewing and therefore assist in proper digestion. Properly aligned teeth are also easier to clean. Braces also improve the appearance of the smile and teeth often improving the facial structure.
It was common practice, not so long along ago, for the procedure of fastening braces to take several long and quite uncomfortable appointments. Steel bands, attached to the teeth, had to be fitted around each tooth. Adapted from NASA, major advances in technology are now used, allowing smaller braces to be applied directly to the surface of the tooth with high-tech adhesives and with computer-software to guide orthodontic treatment, it has become a simpler and much more comfortable practice.
According to the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), “One of the most dramatic breakthroughs in orthodontics came from NASA: heat-activated nickel-titanium alloy wires that effectively move teeth when the wires reach mouth temperature. These new wires apply gradual, precise and gentle pressures, and yet retain their teeth-moving abilities longer than their predecessors. In contrast, stainless steel wires were less resilient needed more frequent adjustments by the orthodontist.”
The new procedure is not only more efficient but also more predictable. Comparatively fewer appointments are needed than in the past. Computer software progress and space-age technology have really advanced orthodontics in this new millennium.
The AAO continues it’s report, “Some of today\'s braces are translucent or tooth-colored. Additionally, metal brackets are now smaller and less noticeable. With multi-color elastic ties that attach the wires to the brackets, today\'s braces are also fun. Many young orthodontic patients enjoy color coordinating their rubber bands as a fashion accessory-but this is an accessory that will help them achieve a healthy smile that\'s good for life.”
Bight Side Dental is also well known for gentle dentistry, including check-ups and cleanings, fillings, laser cavity detection, treatment of gum and bone disease, oral surgery (wisdom teeth extractions), root canals, children’s dentistry, dentures or partials and also has specialists for gum surgery and thier own implant dentist.
